2008 Officer Induction Ceremony and 80th Anniversary

On June 30, 2008, The Junction Rotary Club honored one of its own.  At the finale of their Officer Induction Ceremony and 80th Anniversary, the Club honored David Dobbins by presenting him with a Paul Harris Fellow Award.  David joined the Junction Rotary Club in Feb. 1975 and served as its President during the 1986-86 Rotary Year.  He is currently serving his fourth year as club Treasurer.  Last year he was selected as the 2006-07 Rotarian of the year.

David has served in nearly every capacity of the club over the past 32 years and is considered a role model for fellow club members.  “As the outgoing President of the Club it was my honor and privilege to make such a presentation as my last act as club president.  Whenever we needed something done or prepared we could always count on David getting the job done.  I don’t know what I would have done as president without his guidance and support.  He truly represents what Rotary is all about.   This award is to recognize all the years of service and dedication he has given not only to our club but the Community as well.  He is a role model for all of us and truly represents what it means to be a “Rotarian”.”  Stated Past President, Derrick Ard

The event was held at the Back Door Café in Roosevelt Texas and marked the end of another year for the Junction Rotary Club.  35 club members and guest were on hand to welcome in the new board members and to celebrate the Clubs 80th Anniversary.  Honored Guest in attendance to induct the incoming officers was Jayson Fritz, the 2007-08 District Governor  of Rotary District 5840, and his wife Jan.

The new officers for the 2008-09 year are: Kyle Crabtree – President; Tom Hash – President Elect; Andy Murr – Vice President; Frederica Wyatt – Secretary; David Dobbins – Treasurer; and Larry Harrison – Sergeant-At-Arms.

During the evening outgoing President Derrick Ard, gave a brief summary of the beginnings of the Club, dating back to June of 1928, as part of the birthday celebrations.  He also listed the Charter members which included the following:

Officers:   Coke R. Stevenson – President; Emil A. Loeffler - Vice President; John M. Hankins – Secretary; Dr. L. E. Standifer – Treasurer; J. N. Hodges, W. P. Riley and E. R. Borden - Board of Directors

Charter Members: Buck Frazier, C. W. Atchison, K. G. Durst, H. O. Denman, M. F. Hill, R. H. Loeffler, George Pepper, Joe P. Fritz, Dr. J. Holt Smith and W. B. May

Ard also gave a roll call of current members and their years of service.  The three most senior members of the club comprise a total over 118 years of service.  David Dobbins with 32 years 4 mo, Larry Harrison with 39 years 3 mo, and Gerald Loeffler, whose father was a founding member, with 47 years 1 mo.

To finish out the evening, Lisa Herring was given an awarded by District Governor Fritz for her participation and hard work for the District’s Student Exchange program.  Outgoing President Derrick Ard was honored as the Rotarian of the Year as well as Fundraiser of the Year and the grand finale was the awarding of the Paul Harris Fellow to a well deserving member.

The club would like to thank the Back Door Café for allowing us to host our event which made for a memorable and pleasant event and to Becky Long for her fabulous work on the birthday cake.
