Frederica Wyatt receives Paul
Harris Fellowship
Thursday April 12, the
Junction Rotary Club honored one of its long time members. Frederica Wyatt
joined the Junction Rotary Club in December of 1990, becoming the first female
member. In 1995, she became the first woman president of the club and since
then has served as the club treasurer for three years and for the past 5 years
has been the club secretary and is still holding that position. Her valuable
contribution to the club is immeasurable and is the perfect example of what it
means to be a Rotarian. In recognition of her service to the
Junction Rotary Club and the Community, Frederica Wyatt was presented the “Paul Harris Fellowship”
award. This recognition is usually received when rotary members donate $1000.00
or more to the Rotary Foundation. A higher honor is when individual members or
the club donates that amount in the
recipient’s name, and is usually reserved to those who
go above and beyond their duties as Rotarians, as she has. Past Rotarians John Cashman, C.
Maye Neal, and Dr. Noe Martinez were largely responsible for this recognition by
signing over their credits to help match her donations in order to receive this
award. They all felt that no one were more deserving of the recognition.
“This recognition had been in
the works for the past three to four weeks and had to be kept secret by a select
few. There is not much that goes on in this town without Frederica knowing
about it. Only the donors and a few rotary members were aware the presentation
would take place. Of all the projects I have worked on, this one will be the
most memorable, and couldn’t happen to a better person. Frederica is a perfect
example of what a ‘Rotarian’ is and the club would be lost without her.”
Derrick Ard, President-Elect.
On hand to present the award
were Bruce Flohr, from San Antonio, the 2006-2007 District Governor and Jayson
Fritz, from Fredericksburg, the 2007-2008 District Governor. Also in attendance
to witness the award was Margaret Gaver, Frederica’s sister.
Up until her name was
announced, she had no idea what was going on.
For the First time Frederica was speechless.
